Dear relatives,
I crave the quietness that only this season can bring, where shadows enter the early evening and do not leave until the next morning. Even then, sometimes they linger. The shadows want our attention and care. They need our bodies to speak through, and our senses to arouse. They yearn to be noticed and recognized for their wise play. Acknowledging shadow is a way to practice and transform; to see and be seen; to undulate in the liminal space that lives between everything. It’s a way to say, to know, there are always multiple truths within a story.
There are some things that remain, even when a threshold is crossed. Now on the other side of a New Moon, and a New Year, we are still in the midst of Capricorn season. As we move from the depth of winter, we’ll spend the next few weeks waxing toward the brim of a Full Moon in Cancer. There are cycles we can count on, even when the world, as we know it, is changing.
The first day of January is a metaphor, a hinge upon which we can pivot. It’s soil slowly turning over; the ground beneath our feet barely beginning to warm. This season is about finding the momentum to change course, to move in a different direction. And, our bodies sense it as the microbiome within shifts toward a restructuring, preparing us for transformation Earth side.
“It's never too late to be wise. See how your spirit has been
fermenting.”
–Yrsa Daley-Ward
This season is about dancing with the shadow on a firm foundation. A slow study of safety and security. It’s about the skeleton of a thing, the steadiness of bone that allows the body and spirit to transform. There is a entirely different way to live in the world, and we get to embody what that looks like and sounds like and feels like.
Take your time this month to lean into this idea, this notion about building the world you envision. What systems of care will we need make this a reality?
You don’t have to do this alone, and I’ve created a toolkit to help you navigate your way through the dreaming process. In it, you’ll find a helpful introduction to embodiment: what is means, practices, and resources for further support.

May we remember the power in collective care throughout the year ahead.
Take good care, friend.
With gratitude,
