A letter on the Sun's day
Honoring the New Moon in Leo, August 4, 2024.
Dear relatives,
Today is the Sun’s day, and the squirrels are scamper-dancing across the old-growth Maple tree. I watch them from the bay window. I witness the golden sunlight illuminate the dim morning. Sunrise is here, and it’s an auspicious one.
Every sunrise is unique, and today, as the sun reaches above the horizon, it meets the Moon. The Moon is renewed in its proximity to the Sun. For a fleeting moment, the Moon closely conjoined the Sun in the sign of Leo at 12* inching us closer to a reckoning of the heart.
The Moon and Sun are also in a relationship with Jupiter, making a sextile. The Luminaries merge to initiate an essential conversation with The Sage. They hold counsel to discuss and review the month, and the next four months. They consult with their hearts and rely on their collective wisdom. They gather themselves and then make their way to a formation, modeling a way of relating that will serve us as we greet each morning anew.
There is a constellation of connections unfolding in August, some of which will foster tension that encourages challenge, unlearning, and growth. I imagine you can already sense this astro-weather in your blood and bones.
There is so much that we will need to feel and think through in the coming weeks. With so much ahead, I may check in a bit more this month as we navigate through it all, from the soil to the stars.

🜃 Reading Sister Outsider: Essays and Speeches again since I was first introduced to Audre Lorde’s work at Antioch.
🜃 Hearing the Mourning Dove’s song as I sit in awe watching dawn break open across the still sleeping land.
🜃 Listening to “When the Earth Started to Sing” by David G. Haskell for Emergence Magazine. As I listen deeply, I notice how sound creates patterns within my body.
🜃 Preparing for the first workshop in the Writing with Nature series. I had to postpone the start date, but I am looking forward to gathering with everyone on August 24 at noon EST. The date of the workshop aligns with the last few days before Mercury stations direct, which will provide an opportunity for deep reflection as we move into a new season.
